A 14-year-old Hanover Park girl was found safe and unharmed at a house in Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain, four days after she was reported missing.
The girl was reported missing on Tuesday February 28 and found on Saturday March 4.
Philippi police spokesman Captain Lance Goliath said the search was headed by Philippi detective branch commander Lieutenant Colonel Gavin Sias, with Philippi Community Police Forum, the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit and members of Mitchell’s Plain Visible Policing Unit.
“Philippi police have been working around the clock in search of the 14-year-old. All leads were followed up, which eventually led police to a house in Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain,” Captain Goliath said.
• On Wednesday March 1, at 6.05am, seven men robbed Shoprite, on the corner of Cornhill and Birdwood roads, Athlone, of cellphones worth more than R10 000 and an undisclosed amount of cigarettes.
According to Athlone SAPS spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman, a man pretended to be a trolley assistant and demanded the store’s keys from an employee.
“When the employee refused to give him the keys, he produced a firearm, the keys were handed over to him and then he allowed six other men to enter the store.”
They had tried to open the safe, but it had taken too long, she said.
No shots were fired and no arrests have been made.
