Victoria Cricket Club won two out of three of their Western Province Cricket Club matches this past weekend.
On Friday afternoon, the women’s hub booked their place in the T20 final against Gugulethu Cricket Hub after beating Reddam House in the semi-finals at Chukker Road sportsfield.
Coach Gary Fourie said they feel confident of their chances ahead of the final on Friday November 8, at the Vineyard Cricket Oval in Claremont.
“These girls have been working hard in the nets. It all goes back to our pre-season training and improving from game to game. We feel confident of our chances,” said Fourie.
On Saturday, the senior men’s team lost to Pinelands Cricket Club in a First Division one-day league match in Pinelands.
Coach Saadiek Davids said they started the game well, however, during the course of the afternoon, they let Pinelands take control of it, which was dangerous, especially since the pitch favoured batting.
Vics were chasing a total of 227 before they were bowled out for 96. The men’s team loss was their first loss in four league matches and the first in nine overall matches this season.
They quickly shifted their focus to Sunday’s T20 final against Tygerberg Cricket Club, also played at Pinelands.
Vics batted first and scored 204/5 in 20 overs, with Tygerberg falling short at 136/5 after 20 overs.
Man-of-the- match, Warren Ekstraal, scored 85 runs in 32 balls and got one wicket and 28 runs with the ball. His teammate, Jordan Fourie, picked up 4/16 runs to help Vics secure a 68-run win.
They will play Pinelands in the T20 final at Newlands before the end of the season.
