A Manenberg police detective’s diligent work has been recognised by station commander, Brigadier Jayce Naidoo, after another one of his investigations led to a conviction.

One of Detective Sergeant Darryl van Noie’s latest successful investigations has seen Chadwin Adams, 36, being convicted and sentenced at the Wynberg Regional Court to eight years' direct imprisonment for attempted murder.

Manenberg SAPS spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, said Sergeant Van Noie is one of the station’s seasoned detectives who has had many successful investigations leading to prosecutions and convictions.

“He has become a mentor to his younger peer detectives. This successful conviction is no different to the fight against breaking the back of gangsterism within the Manenberg policing precinct,” Captain Bennett added.

On Wednesday May 28, Adams was convicted in the Wynberg Regional Court and sentenced to twelve years imprisonment, of which four years is suspended for two years.

Adams will serve eight years' direct imprisonment for an attempted murder, which happened on Thursday October 12, 2023, when he shot and wounded a 38-year-old man.

“The 38-year-old man was approached by two assailants as he stood by his gate in Manenberg Avenue. Without any provocation, the one man, Adams, opened fire on him, hitting him in his lower abdomen and legs.

“Detective Sergeant Van Noie followed up on all possible information and presented a watertight case before the Wynberg Regional Court, leaving the court with no choice but to find Chadwin Adams guilty,” Captain Bennett said.

Brigadier Jayce Naidoo has commended Sergeant Van Noie for his diligence and unwavering commitment in serving the community of Manenberg and for restoring faith within Manenberg SAPS.

“I want to encourage the community to be active crime fighters by reporting criminal activity and not to interfere in the execution of SAPS’ mandate of preventing and investigating crimes and bringing the perpetrators thereof to book. More of these kinds of convictions are possible if the community partnership with SAPS is strengthened,” Brigadier Naidoo said.

He added that anyone with information that could lead to an arrest, successful prosecution and conviction will be rewarded financially.
