Vanguard Community Health Centre (CHC) has announced the appointment of a new health committee to strengthen community involvement in local healthcare services.
Appointed through an official process by the MEC for Health and Wellness, Mireille Wenger, the committee brings together healthcare professionals, community leaders, patient advocates, and local government representatives.
Ms Wenger said the committee's mission is to ensure that the community has an active voice in shaping the services offered at Vanguard CHC.
"The health committee acts as a vital link between the community and the health centre," said Ashwyn Du Plooy, chairperson of the committee.
"We are here to ensure that local voices, concerns, and needs are heard and reflected in the services provided. This partnership encourages accountability, builds trust, and ultimately leads to better healthcare delivery."
Through regular meetings and collaborative planning with facility management, the committee works to identify challenges, set priorities, and co-create solutions aimed at improving service quality and the overall patient experience.
Committee secretary Nokwanda Mbekwa said the health centre is a shared community resource. "It is everyone's responsibility to care for and protect this facility. We encourage community members to take pride in the clinic and contribute ideas for its improvement."
To support open communication, the facility has a feedback box where patients and community members can submit suggestions, compliments, or concerns. Doctor Levona Johnson, facility manager at Vanguard CHC, emphasises the importance of this feedback: "Our goal is to bridge any gaps between the clinic and the people it serves. We believe that empowering patients and fostering collaboration is key to achieving better health outcomes."
