Warren Volkwyn, Bridgetown
I am the founder of Akasia Avenue Foundation, which was established in honour of my mother, who passed on in 2019. Within one year of our establishment, the foundation was honoured with a mayoral award for its work in the greater Athlone area.
Towards the end of 2023 the Akasia Avenue Foundation set out to collect fem-care products (deodorant, sanitary towels, and soap), and the sole purpose was to distribute these to schools within the Athlone area.
We were able to make up fem-care packages, and distributed these to Peak View High School, Athlone High School, and Bridgetown High School.
We also were able to gather a few pairs of school shoes, and were able to distribute these to Silverlea Primary School.
During the same period, we had an outpouring of gently-worn clothing, and were able to donate these to Christine Revell Children's Home.
We know that things are tough for so many people, and we are truly grateful to all those who have donated, and were able to be a blessing to someone else.
The Akasia Avenue Foundation is continuously collecting donations, and aims to help those in dire need throughout the year.
We'd like to thank all of the donors, the friends, businesses and individuals for their continued support.
