Police say the motive behind the murders of four men in Gugulethu is yet to be established.
Detectives from the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit launched an investigation following the fatal shooting of the four on Friday, police spokesperson André Traut said.
“Police were called to the scene in NY 3A at approximately 8pm, where the bodies of the victims, believed to be in their twenties, were found with multiple gunshot wounds.
“Crime scene experts collected evidence, and all available clues are being followed up as part of efforts to track down the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Traut said.
Meanwhile, members attached to Khayelitsha SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 46-year-old woman and confiscated mandrax worth R1million.
On Friday, the officers were conducting a stop and search operation when they received information about a premises in T-Block, Sector 6, Site B, Khayelitsha, that is allegedly used as a liquor storage facility.
“The members immediately operationalised the information and on arrival they saw a lady on the premises carrying a big green bag and found 10 big packets with mandrax tablets and four small clear packets also with mandrax tablets.”
“When counted in each of the 10 packets, 1000 units of mandrax tablets were found and inside the four small packets 100 mandrax tablets were found with an estimated street value of R1million.”
The suspect is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates court today for possession of drugs.
Provincial police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile expressed appreciation for the efforts of the community who shared valuable information that led to the recovery of the drugs and to bring the perpetrator to book.
