Devon Swartz, from San Remo, and Dennis Stander, from Parktown, presents a theatre production for outcasts.
A Cape Flats duo are taking to the stage to answer their audience’s questions about life.
Mama Cry will premier at the Masque Theatre, in Muizenberg, on Friday July 28 at 6pm. Another show is planned for the next day, Saturday July 29.
It is brought together by Devon Swartz, from San Remo, a director from Taking Action Drama Academy, an extracurricular programme run at Mitchell’s Plain schools; and Dennis Stander, director of Men Stand Tall, a non-profit company raising awareness of social issues specific to men based in Parktown, Athlone, who co-founded DS Productions.
The drama showcases their blood sweat and tears shed in dealing with life’s ups and downs.
It addresses an array of social issues, substance abuse, mental health and gambling, with a mother’s cry being the voice of reason.
Stander wrote the play a decade ago and has since been crafting the production.
"I've always wanted to stage it in a theatre space but could never get the right timing or get a cast together which made me despondent. But I've learned that God's timing is God's timing,” he said.
Stander said: "I'm inviting you to join in this milestone of my career“.
“Show your support as I continue to journey on being a catalyst of change,” he said.
