■ The Cape Town Male Voice and Tygerberg City choirs come together on Friday May 18 in St George’s Cathedral, Wale Street, Cape Town, to perform the South American Mass, Misa Criolla, with an instrumental ensemble featuring guitarist James Grace and tenors, Given Nkosi, pictured, and Thando Mjandara. The Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez is one of the first masses written after the Second Vatican Council permitted use of the vernacular in Catholic churches. It caused a sensation when it was recorded in 1965. The programme will include other joint works, some carrying on the Argentinian theme, solos from James Grace and tenor soloists as well as individual segments from each choir. Tickets are available at R140 through Webtickets or contact info@ctmvc.org.za or 078 278 4843.
