ActionArte, a home-grown social circus non-profit organisation based in Observatory and working closely with the community in Hanover Park, will host An Action Arte Escapade at the Magnet Theatre on Friday August 19 and Saturday August 20, at 7pm.
They have recently returned from a tour to Europe where they visited schools and circuses in Denmark and Spain.
This tour was followed directly by a tour to Ethiopia.
You may have also seen ActionArte in some of their many collaboration shows such with Trash Cabaret, Africa Burn, the Cape Town Carnival and many more. It will be an action-packed, 60-minute, high-level circus performance featuring trapeze acts, air suspension, aerial straps, clowning, acrobatics, juggling, pyramids, video projections, as well as a creature fight scene.
Parental guidance is advised as there is some degree of violence portrayed.
The story will be told through live performance, a mix of visual art and contains many genres of art, including martial arts, dance and theatre. ActionArte will take you on a journey through humanity – showing the fears, struggles and changes, through the emotions that we all are faced with in life and highlighting how life, because of circumstances, is sometimes more difficult in some areas than others.
Founder and director of ActionArte, Hanne La Cour, said: “As a social circus troupe, we see the reality of life in the gangster-affected areas of the Cape Flats, where we work.
“We take this inspiration and place it in a message aimed at the youth, who are the future custodians of the world. They have the real power to change the future. The message: Anything is possible,” she said.
The children performed a pre-show for their parents at the Hanover Park civic centre on Saturday August 13.
