Novocaine TheBand will take to the stage at the Wave Theatre Cafe, in Long Street, Cape Town, on Friday.
The group, which was formed in 2015, is made up of Rezaan Hendricks from Mountview, Faghri and Rameez Hendricks from Silvertown, Faaghira Maloon from Kensington, Faseeg Saal from Lotus River and Zaid January from Mitchell’s Plain.
In 2018, the group performed in the Quay Four restaurant’s Battle of the Bands contest; In 2020, it released its debut single, Addicted; and last year, it was chosen as LuxLife Magazine’s “global wedding band of the year” and it had two sold-out shows at the Bokaap Ghoema Theatre.
Rameez says he mostly enjoys rock but can listen to anything with a good beat.
“I’m feeling excited about the upcoming show and ready to give the audience what they want. My favourite song I like to perform in the band is Måneskin’s Beggin’.”
Rameez’s brother, Rezaan, says music runs in their families with their parents involved in the Malay choirs, but they decided to move away from more traditional sounds to appeal to pop audiences.
“Pop music is what people enjoy and makes us marketable. Music makes people happy and brings everyone together, and that is our motivation. Seeing how happy the crowd is when we perform inspires me to do more. Certain music brings memories back for people, and the crowds love going back in time.”
He says there is support for South African musicians, but it is important to make the right connections, attend workshops, speak to the right people and “work hard to get your brand out there”.
Tickets are available on www.catchthewave.co.za and are R160 each. The show starts at 8pm.
