A young rapper has released a single to remind everyone to enjoy the festive season, despite it having been a very challenging year.
Donovan “Big D” Petersen released his single Dis Festive Hie Buite today, Wednesday December 15.
The 26-year-old from Bredasdorp moved to Cape Town in November after he was discovered by talent agency, BruinChild Media.
The up-and-coming artist told Plainsman that he was honoured to perform in the Cape and that locals had made him feel at home.
“Dis vir my ‘n eer om hier te perform. Die mense gee vir jou daai welcome feeling, asof jy hier behoort,” he said.
BruinChild Media’s founder Alex Cupido, said he could not let Big D’s talent and message go unheard.
He said: “Big D was trying to make it on his own in Bredasdorp and as with many young artists they struggled to break into the industry due to a lack of resources and training.
“Artists need to understand that talent can only take them so far. You need hard work, determination, proper guidance and management to enter this competitive industry.”
Despite being new to the scene, Big D has already sparked the attention of TikTok star Neevan Ferris, Mary Jo, Von D, and Jay P who are featured in his song’s music video.
The music video follows a man who counts down the seconds to his end-of-year holiday.
It’s produced by BruinChild Media and Island Roc Music and was shot in Sea Point, Strandfontein and Pelican Park.
You can watch the music video on BruinChild Media’s YouTube channel.
