The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the death of a suspect who was allegedly shot and killed by a member of a Flying Squad in Hanover Park.

Members of the Western Cape Flying Squad responded to a house robbery and the theft of a motor vehicle at about 11am, on Christmas Day, Sunday December 25. The car was found in Hanover Park.

“It is alleged that as the police officers approached the car, the passenger pointed a gun at the Flying Squad member who fired a shot, hitting the suspect in the chest. The suspect later died in hospital as a result of the gunshot wound,” said IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping.
