Star College in Bridgetown scored a 100% pass and 91.67% Bachelor’s pass for the 2022 matric exams.
Pupils across the province received their results on Friday January 20.
The school’s top pupil, Muhammad Mahdi da Costa, 18, of Kensington, achieved 10 distinctions and hopes to study science at UCT this year. He said he had not expected such good marks.
“My family is very proud of me. I like learning and applying myself and achieving the best that I can. I can see myself in academia for years to come. I want to tell matrics of this year that most of it is a mental game. Reduce your stress levels and just apply yourself. Hard work will pay off.”
Ebrahim Domingo, 18, of Wynberg, achieved eight distinctions and, having scored highest in maths, he hopes to study actuarial science.
“My parents are so proud of me. I don't think anyone in the family got as many distinctions. My advice to matriculants of this year is to study as hard as you can. Maintain a balance in life, and don’t underestimate your tasks and tests and what they count as.”
Mohammed Tanweer Allie, 18, of Greenhaven achieved eight distinctions with 96% for geography.
“I pushed myself. If you want to achieve, you need to be tough and you will last. Tough times don't last, but a tough person will.
“My inspiration has been my parents, who are both doctors, and that is how my passion developed to help people because of what they did and do for the community. Nothing is impossible.”
Muizz Ebrahim, 19, of Wetton, achieved eight distinctions and hopes to study medicine at Stellenbosch University.
“Biology was one of my favourite subjects. I would say that my biggest challenge was procrastination forcing me to pull all-nighters. I wish that I managed my time better. My advice to matrics is to study consistently throughout the year not just exam time and lead a balanced life.”
The school’s principal, Ugur Hulusi Patli, said he was very proud of the pupils and teachers.
“I knew that my pupils would do well. I was expecting 100% Bachelor’s pass, but we know the capabilities of our pupils. I’m really proud of my pupils, they studied really hard.”
