Metro police officers recovered a firearm and a suspected hand grenade in Manenberg on Saturday.

Metro police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons, said just before 7pm, officers were conducting a joint operation with police and received a tip about a firearm being kept at a house in the area.

“Permission was granted to conduct a search, and K9 Kiara helped identify a bag containing a Glock 9mm pistol, two magazines loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition, and what appeared to be a hand grenade.”

She said a 45-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Manenberg police station.

Officers later discovered that the firearm had been reported stolen in another province, she said.
