Star College pupils displayed their science projects at school on Wednesday May 15.
Star College pupils displayed their projects at the school’s annual science expo last Wednesday.
The expo was held for the first time last year, and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed it, said natural science and technology teacher Naseerah Hendricks.
“It is important to have this every year to inspire interest and a love for science and explore the subject. Children feel extremely excited and start preparing at the beginning of the year for this expo. They start brainstorming and preparing ideas. The reaction from the parents has been very enthusiastic and they are willing to assist where they can.”
Grade 6 pupil Nathier Allie made a miniature solar-powered car for his project.
“I decided on this because my dad is an engineer. I couldn't do a normal car so I decided on a solar-panel car. It took me two weeks to get this together. My dad helped me with the motor; I did it at his shop. I think the science expo is a good idea.”
Grade 7 pupil Nakiah Aploon’s project explored the sea depths.
“It took me a week to finish this,” she said. “I chose this especially because I am fond of the ocean and found out that there's a lot I could learn about it and teach others as well.”
