Cultural mapping

Staff Reporter|Published

The City of Cape Town held a workshop and exhibition at the Bonteheuwel community centre on Saturday as part of a “cultural mapping” process to identify current arts and culture projects in the area and gauge their needs so they can be included in community development initiatives. From left, are, Desmond Abrahams, Michelle George, and Ursula Felkers, all from the City’s expanded public works programme; Nikita Beukes, the department head of the City’s community and cultural development branch with her daughter, Ruby Beukes, 4; and Catherine Smith, who volunteers at the community centre.

Resident Derick George spoke about the lack of resources for the arts and artisans in Bonteheuwel.
Gino Oliver, from the Gino Oliver Music Foundation, a non-profit music school in the area, shared his thoughts on music development in the area.
