Models rehearse for Runway Renaissance, a fashion show to be staged at the Joseph Stone Auditorium later this month.

Runway Renaissance, a fashion show featuring models of all ages, at the Joseph Stone Auditorium later this month, will reference the musicals Grease, Mamma Mia! and Hairspray as it looks at fashion from the past, present and future, say the organisers.

It will be staged by Exposé, a non-profit organisation that has put on similar shows in Athlone, the CBD and Mitchell’s Plain since 2020 with participants aged from 7 to 55, according to spokesperson Abigail Jackson.

“It is important that people support us and that the community knows that we have talent in Cape Town, not just abroad. It will boost our youth to give them courage to take their art, music, and dance further. It doesn’t only apply to those abroad,” she said.

The show’s 150 models were excited to be taking part, she said.

“They pull up every Sunday to practise, and their energy levels are high. When we had our casting, so many were interested and hyped up. They are excited and eager to share their talent with Cape Town.”

The show’s producer, Gino Thaysen, added: “Our fashion show is a celebration of our vibrant community, bringing together people from all walks of life to share in the joy of fashion, creativity, and connection. By attending, you'll be supporting models and artists and helping to build a more inclusive and creative community for all. For us it’s an unforgettable evening that's all about embracing our unique spirit and celebrating the beauty of our community.”

One of the models, Mogammad Fay-yaad Soeker, 26, said the show helped to develop hidden talent.

“This production allows many age groups to be part of something that unifies us.”

The show will be on Friday and Saturday July 19 and 20, from 7.30pm. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets cost R120. For more information, call Shanet at 069 584 1004.

The show will look at fashion from the past, present and future, say the organisers.
The show includes participants of all ages.
