Colourful kites filled the skies over Melkbosstrand Beach on Sunday for the annual Pop-Up Fly Event, as part of the 30th Cape Town International Kite Festival.
The festival has been held annually during October, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
#HopeOnAString was the theme for this year’s event, said the organisers, “because despite the fragility of the string, it allows the kite to fly higher and higher - just as we humans rise above the circumstances that life throws our way”.
The event featured both local professional kiter flyers, such as Mari and Bradley Ware-Lane, Bobby Gathoo and Brian Skinner, and some international ones such as Tony Jetland from America.
