Lavender Hill High School won the high school category at the 10th annual Steenberg Schools Marching Competition.
Youngsters from several schools showed off their drilling and marching skills at the 10th annual Steenberg Schools Marching Competition last week.
More than 250 people attended the event, which was held by the Steenberg police and the Steenberg Community Police Forum, at the Lavender Hill sports complex on Wednesday October 23.
“This is an after-school programme that keeps the youth involved in marching and drilling and keeps them off the street. We will continue teaching discipline and giving children another option than to partake in the social ills they can so easily fall prey to,” said Steenberg social crime prevention officer Sergeant Luqmaan Adams.
Heathfield High, Lavender Hill High, Heathfield Primary, Blouvlei LSEN Primary, Delta Primary and Levana Primary all took part in the competition. Lourier Primary School did not participate on the day, but it is also part of the programme.
Lavender Hill High came first followed by Heathfield High in the high school category while Levana Primary came first followed by Heathfield Primary in the primary school category.
