The efforts of a Eros School bus driver has led to a donation of new school uniforms for three of the pupils he transports.
Raymond Jacobs drives the Hanover Park route and noticed that some of the pupils desperately needed new school uniforms. He then reached out to a local radio station and his appeal was aired.
Not long after, he was contacted by an organisation, called Foxxy Foundation, who offered to buy new uniforms and school shoes for the three pupils. On Monday March 3, Mr Jacobs received the uniforms.
Said Mr Jacobs: "I come from the poorest of the poor community in Manenberg. I have been working at Eros School nearly two years as a driver. My route is Hanover Park, also a poor community. I take pride in my job and care a lot about safety and the learners alike. I'm the driver who does advertising on radio for our school's functions to raise much needed funds, but it really breaks my heart to see the condition some of our learners come to school in, therefore I appealed via the radio station for some sponsorships for some learners on my bus. Jeremy Harris has this programme on Saturdays, it's called "School's on One", and I was amazed by the swift response from some of the caring listeners. I appreciate all the assistance, and more sponsorship is needed. I don't want to be remembered only as a driver, but leave some legacy behind too."
