Manenberg SAPS, supported by the Western Province Police Band, the Manenberg Community Police Forum, and Youth for Human Rights International, commemorated Human Rights Day on Thursday March 20 at the Nyanga Junction Transport Interchange.
Officers addressed commuters as they passed through the mall and handed out pamphlets.
"Manenberg SAPS successfully brought the story of human rights to the Manenberg community by targeting primary schools in the area, creating ongoing awareness. We brought the Human Rights Day programme to a climax, with a lavish musical affair at the Nyanga Junction Transport Interchange hub with the Western Cape Police Band. Music is a universal language, one that reaches all, where words sometimes fail. The police band brought energy and excitement, making it easier to open conversations about human rights. Bringing the message to the broader community of Manenberg and all who passed through our policing precinct became a special occasion," Captain Bennett said.
He added that their human rights awareness will continue beyond this month.
Station commander, Brigadier Jayce Naidoo also committed to deploy an integrated team within gang hotspot areas in an effort to bring stability in this policing precinct.
"Just as we are bringing the message of human rights through forming partnerships, our biggest partnership that will ensure success, is the partnership with the the greater community of Manenberg, which includes the Heideveld area," Brigadier Naidoo said.
Sergeant Natasha Landers and Sergeant Yandie Gabuza handed out pamphlets and spoke to commuters about their human rights during a Manenberg SAPS outreach at the Nyanga Junction Transport Interchange.
