Taare, a Cape Town-based Bollywood dance troupe, is hosting its latest production, called Kismet at the Artscape Opera House on Saturday July 19 at 7pm, and Sunday July 20 at 4pm.

Now in its 13th year, Taare is known for its original productions that fuse cultural storytelling with vibrant choreography. Taare has captivated audiences with works such as Bollywood Enchanted, The Taare Express, Anjali in Wonderland, The Bollywood Bazaar, and more. Kismet promises to be the dance troupe’s biggest and most extravagant production yet.

Kismet is Taare’s Bollywood dance adaptation of William Shakespeare's masterpiece - Romeo and Juliet.

Produced with support from Artscape, this production promises to be a moving experience resonating with both traditional values and contemporary audiences. Taare dancers, accompanied by phenomenal guest artists, breathe new life into an epic tale through expressive storytelling, inspired choreography, and a carefully selected musical score, comprising many adored tracks from the Bollywood industry.

“We are encouraging people to come out in their numbers to join the talented cast for a reimagined tale of star-crossed lovers which stays true to the vibrancy of Bollywood while remaining a poignant reflection on the tragedy of division, the transcendence of love, and the undeniable power of destiny.

“Kismet blends the emotional depth of Shakespeare’s story with the rhythmic soul of Bollywood,” said Ahneesh Valodia, artistic director of Taare.

“We wanted to create something that feels both familiar and new — something audiences will carry with them for years to come.”
