Lansdowne police have urged residents in several suburbs in the police precinct to be on high alert following a rise in house robberies and theft.

The affected areas include Aylesbury Place in Ottery, Muller Road, Kenwyn, Rondebosch East, and Clive Road in Sector Three. Police have noted an increase in incidents since April 2025.

Station Commander Colonel Allroy Jerome van der Berg said: “The Lansdowne police precinct has experienced a spate of house break-ins and theft, and it has raised a major concern from April 2025 to date.”

He said the break-ins were happening on specific days of the week and at certain times. “The prominent days are Sundays, Thursdays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and prominent times are between early morning 3am–6am, 6am–12pm, and 3pm–8pm,” said Colonel van der Berg.

“These house break-ins and thefts are mostly at Aylesbury Place in Ottery, Muller Road, Sector Two area, Kenwyn and Rondebosch East, as well as in Sector Three area (Clive Road),” he said.

According to police, suspects were gaining entry by breaking off door locks, smashing windows, or using unlocked doors.

Colonel van der Berg urged residents to improve home security. “We urge all residents to always lock the door and close windows, ensure that they do not open for unknown persons in their houses, and also beef up their security like alarms and surveillance cameras, and be vigilant at all times,” he said.

Residents with any information or who witness incidents are urged to contact Lansdowne police at 021 700 9046/9047 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Police said all information would be treated anonymously.
