Graceful Hands Diaconia (GHD), a newly formed non-profit organisation supported by the URCSA Claremont Church in Lansdowne, launched its first community initiative in honour of Mandela Day.

In a spirit of compassion and service, GHD members and supporters gathered to create sleeping bags for the homeless - an essential resource during Cape Town’s cold, wet winter. The sleeping bags were made from recycled plastic and newspaper, combining sustainability with practical support.

On Saturday, July 19, GHD distributed the sleeping bags in the Lansdowne area, along with a warm cup of soup and a pair of socks. The heartfelt gratitude from recipients was a powerful reminder of the impact of small acts of kindness, said GHD chairperson Tracey Daseman.

This outreach marks just the beginning, she said.

GHD invites all to join hands - whether by volunteering, donating, or simply sharing fellowship - as we continue to serve our communities with grace and purpose.
