Women in law enforcement, including administrative staff, from Manenberg police, took to the streets to highlight the role women play in policing.
The initiative on Wednesday, August 20, part of Women’s Month, reinforced their commitment to community safety, said Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett.
Officers held short vehicle checkpoints, aiming to show that women bring both authority and compassion to the fight against crime, and with the approach that effective policing is not only about force but also about empathy, resilience, and restorative engagement.
Manenberg police showcased a side of policing rooted in listening, nurturing, and kindness, while still maintaining firm authority, said Captain Bennett. This combination of compassion and discipline is reshaping the image of law enforcement, proving that crime prevention can succeed through dialogue, understanding, and community trust, he said.
The event also celebrated the station’s administrative staff, whose behind-the-scenes work keeps operations running. “This initiative reminds us that women are not only on the frontlines but also in offices, driving effective policing every day,” said Captain Bennett.
The operation is part of a broader effort to humanise policing and strengthen ties with the community, he said.
