"Music has always been part of my life. I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember," said  Maxine Ceasar, from Woodstock, who released her first Extended Play (EP) at Brickfield Canvas on Thursday, August 21.

Her album, titled It’s Complicated, consists of six tracks, which include the title track of the EP as well as other songs, What You Want, Closer, Misery, Backseat, and Me & U.

Ms Ceasar said it was a dream to create her full body of work that represented her and everything she wanted to share in music. “For years, I’ve carried melodies, lyrics, and emotions that I knew needed to live in one project, and now felt like the perfect time,” she said.

Ms Ceasar comes from a musical family; her father, Richard Ceasar, is a well-known jazz musician, and her mother hails from the Schilder family, also legends in the jazz world.  The late musician, Tony Schilder, and Ebrahim Schilder are her uncles. “Growing up surrounded by music, it was impossible not to fall in love with it. When I was younger, I always remembered connecting to music more than kids my age,” she said.

Before releasing her first EP, Ms Ceasar had released a few singles, with her debut single, White Noise, coming out in 2018. She would then go on to release What You Want and Closer in 2024, which are part of her first EP.

Earlier this year, she performed a few shows in London with her husband, Dalin Oliver, who is a comedian. “It was such a fun and unique experience. It’s always special when I can merge music with other forms of art,” she said.

Ms Ceasar said she writes her own songs, as songwriting is one of her passions. When she is not singing, she enjoys long walks, good food, and the little moments in life, she said.

It’s Complicated is now available on all streaming platforms.  To find out more about Ms Caesar’s musical journey, you can visit her pages on social media.
