The City of Cape Town is proposing to convert Buckley Road in Athlone into a one-way street from St Athans Road towards Thornton Road.
The move aims to improve safety and traffic flow for the educational and religious institutions along the route, which see a high number of vulnerable road users during peak periods, according to the City.
Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s mayoral committee member for urban mobility, said the change would also create additional on-street parking.
“Apart from efforts to make this road safer, the proposed one-way conversion will help improve traffic flow during busy periods. We encourage residents and all interested parties to attend the information days and submit their comments before Wednesday, October 1,” he said.
The City has scheduled two public information sessions: the first on Monday, September ,8 from 5pm to 8pm, and the second on Saturday, September 13 from 9am to 12pm. Both will be held at Masjid-us-Salaam, 34 St Athans Road, Athlone.
Residents and road users can submit comments via email to RIM.PTI.Communication@capetown.gov.za quoting reference 210252601, online at www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay, or in person at Sub-council 11, Dulcie September Civic Centre, corner of Protea and Klipfontein Road, Athlone.
Comments can also be submitted at the Athlone Public Library on the corner of Old Klipfontein Road and Dobson Road. Special assistance is available for those unable to read or write, people with disabilities, or other disadvantaged groups who cannot submit written comments.
