Still no arrests in Athlone court shooting, say police

The suspect who shot and killed a 30-year-old man outside Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 5, is still at large, police have confirmed.

Sergeant Wesley Twigg, Western Cape police spokesperson, said the case remains under investigation.

On Friday, Athlone police spokesperson Sergeant Zita Norman said the man arrived at court at 9:41am and was shot by an unknown suspect as he walked through the gate. Police have linked the attack to the Laughing Boys gang ("Man killed outside Athlone Magistrate’s Court; two others wounded in separate incidents" Athlone News September 5).

Police urged members of the community to avoid the area.
