Man fatally stabbed in Manenberg following alleged argument

OWN Correspondent|Published

A man, 38, was fatally stabbed in Manenberg on Sunday, September 14, following an alleged argument with another man.

Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennet said the incident happened around 8.15pm. The man, 38, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the suspect fled and remains at large. Police have opened a case of murder.

Authorities have raised concern over the increasing use of deadly force to settle disputes, a trend that is spilling over to youth and pupils. This culture of violence contributes to escalating crimes, including assaults, assault with grievous bodily harm, and ultimately murder, said Captain Bennet.

Community leaders are urged to foster conflict resolution through dialogue rather than violence. Reports of stone-throwing incidents highlight how gangs are exploiting violent behaviour for recruitment, further influencing young people, he said.

The police call on community leaders to spearhead moral regeneration initiatives within the Manenberg policing precinct, he said.
