Manenberg police led a community walkabout on Friday, September 12, as part of efforts to strengthen safety in the area.
The walkabout was led by Brigadier Jayce Naidoo, station commander of Manenberg police.
He was joined by his vispol commander, support team, sector managers, reserve core members, neighbourhood watch members, Community in Blue, and the Community Police Forum (CPF). The group moved through the streets of Manenberg, engaging residents directly and listening to their concerns, said Captain Ian Bennet.
The walkabout formed part of a broader plan to improve cooperation between police and the community. Brigadier Naidoo said the purpose was to hear from residents on the issues affecting them and to encourage participation in safety structures.
“The community often blames the lack of policing resources, so Manenberg SAPS is taking to the streets to hear the echo of the streets and get a better understanding,” Brigadier Naidoo said, adding that the team held one-on-one discussions with families and community members.
