The Train Up a Child Foundation, a non-governmental organisation founded by Manenberg resident Keshia Davids, aims to equip young people through faith and guidance to resist drugs, crime, and gangsterism.
Ms Davids started the foundation in August last year after seeing a need for programs that support children beyond formal schooling.
“Sunday school is not enough to equip our children on a Sunday morning,” she said.
Guided by her faith and inspired by Proverbs 22:6, she founded her foundation as she wanted to help children build strong moral foundations through faith while navigating life’s challenges.
What began with four children attending daily sessions has now expanded to more than 60, with classes focused on personal development, positive decision-making, and community values.
“The program helps children build a strong foundation in Christ, teaching values to guide them and resist negative influences,” she said.
Keshia said, “We are teaching children to make good choices and stand strong against negative influences. Our faith guides everything we do, and we believe that instilling these values early makes a real difference.”
The foundation will host its second annual concert on Saturday, November 8, at Silverstream Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, showcasing the children’s talents and the positive impact of the program in the community.
