Man arrested after shooting in Manenberg

A man, 36, was arrested in Manenberg after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Manenberg after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition after shots were fired in a residential area on Wednesday, September 17.

Manenberg police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennet confirmed that several gunshots were fired from different rival gangs in Manenberg Avenue. Police went to the hotspot areas and soon identified the shooter.

The suspect was pointed out by the community and arrested. He had a 9mm pistol and eight rounds.

Further investigation showed the firearm belongs to a resident of Germiston. Police also confirmed the suspect was wanted in a Cape Town Central police attempted murder case.

He is being held at Manenberg police for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.
