The Heideveld Library Seniors hosted their annual Cancer Awareness Programme on Saturday, October 18. The event began with a walk from the library along the main road of Heideveld, bringing a flood of pink to the community.
The programme featured inspiring personal stories from survivors Rodney Sauls, Reyaan van der Westhuizen, Shavon van Graan, Beryl Arries, and Mercia Abrahams, who also represented Reach for Recovery.
Richard Juries and Dr Kashiefa Domingo spoke about coping with the loss of a loved one to cancer, while Soli Philander motivated and encouraged the crowd throughout the event.

While the speakers shared their stories, various displays and activities took place throughout the morning.
Reach for Recovery is a non-profit breast cancer support organization which did a live demonstration on how to perform self-checks among others.
A wall of honor invited community members to write the names of loved ones who had passed away, keeping them in prayer. Beside it, a wall for survivors and warriors celebrated those still fighting cancer, filled with messages of encouragement, strength and healing.
