The Cape Town Association for the Physically Disabled in Bridgetown is appealing to the public to lend a helping hand as it prepares for its annual Ukonwaba Day children’s event, taking place on Thursday, November 27, at Nantes Park.

The organisation is calling on individuals, businesses, and community groups to donate essential items that will bring joy to children living with disabilities.

The association is currently in need of the following items:

  • Toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrushes, face cloths, soap, and lotion
  • School stationery: pencils, colouring pencils, and notebooks
  • Sweets and treats to make the day extra special for the children

Social worker Yoliswa Mxhamli said, “Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference in a child’s life. Without donated goods, this care simply would not be possible. Every contribution helps us bring smiles to the faces of children who face daily challenges. We rely on the generosity of our community to make them feel valued and loved.”

The Ukonwaba Day event caters to 40 children between the ages of six and 12, including children with and without disabilities, promoting inclusion and friendship. “Any donation, whether in kind or in cash, will go a long way in helping us provide essential care and support for local children,” she added. “Your kindness helps us remind every child that they are seen, loved, and celebrated.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Reable Centre, located at 152 Tarentaal Road, Bridgetown. For more information or to arrange a donation, contact Yoliswa Mxhamli or Thenorisa Hanse on 021 637 1204 during office hours, or visit the association’s Facebook page for updates
