Manenberg Police, along with various safety structures and community leaders, hosted its 4th annual Carols by Candlelight at the Manenberg police station.

Community members gathered at the station on Sunday, December 14, to celebrate the festive season and were treated to a meal.

Captain Ian Bennett of Manenberg police said the event aimed to bring the children of the community together.

“We wanted to thank the community, welcome the kids to the police station, and give them something special.

Vernon Visagie, chairperson of the Manenberg Community Police Forum (CPF), said: “We understand that this year has been challenging for many, and that’s why we felt our kids deserve a day like this. But not just one day - they deserve days filled with peace, calm, and quiet."

With this event, they celebrated "Christ and bringing people closer. We also want everyone to realize there is a better life outside of Manenberg’s world, where people can relax, find peace, and enjoy themselves.

"Taking time to celebrate these children was important, many of whom have been affected by gang violence and other traumatic incidents at school. This event is our way of showing appreciation for their hard work. May God continue to bless them,” he said.

Ward 30 councillor Anthony Moses encouraged residents to enjoy the festive season safely.

“Have a wonderful festive season and a safe Christmas, and please look after your kids. Once again, thank you for your support,” he said.

Meagan Ohlson, chairperson of the Manenberg Youth Desk, said the event aimed to bless the children spiritually and emotionally.

“Our aim was to bless and remind them of the reason for the season, and provide not just food, but also encouragement through the word of God. We want them to experience a season filled with peace. God bless you all.”
