The Mustadafin Foundation is appealing for donations to support 100 additional basic school supply packs.

Through starter stationery packs, school uniforms, and basic stationery bundles, Mustadafin helps pupils arrive at school ready to focus on learning. A pencil becomes a voice, a uniform builds confidence, and a school bag carries possibility, said Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem, director of the Mustadafin Foundation.

While schools have reopened and classrooms are once again filled with chatter, many pupils are returning without the essentials they need to feel ready to learn. No stationery. No uniform. At the Mustadafin Foundation, this is a reality seen daily in the communities they serve, she said.

“Last year, we were very fortunate and could assist 497 children with stationery and 23 with school uniforms,” said Ms Johnstone-Cassiem.

Donations will support pupils in Hanover Park as well as other communities facing similar challenges. Mustadafin’s annual School Supply Drive aims to make this possible.

“Our focus is on communities such as Hanover Park, where many families are navigating significant socio-economic challenges. In many cases, we were also able to provide food support, as households are under severe financial strain. This year, we are receiving many more requests from parents and schools,” she said.

Every contribution, whether large or small, helps a child feel ready to begin.

The school year has already begun, and support is still urgently needed for at least 100 children.
