On Friday February 24, Bishop Lavis SAPS reacted to a gang-related shooting in Bonteheuwel.
While attending to the incident, a suspect opened fire on the police.
Bishop Lavis police officers called for backup, and the Cluster Project Team and Elsies River SAPS came to assist them.
The police then arrested nine suspects, aged between 19 to 25, one of whom was in possession of a 9mm firearm.
Cases of possession of an unlicensed firearm and attempted murder have been opened.
