A Bonteheuwel man wants police to do more to find the men who stole his motorbike from his home.
The break-in and theft of his motorbike were caught on camera.
Around 1.20am on Thursday January 16, Kashief Ishak and his mother-in-law, Judy Henn, were woken by neighbours who had noticed their gate open.
When Ms Henn saw the motorbike was gone, Mr Ishak checked the camera footage and saw two men break the lock of a gate to enter the property. They then pushed the bike out and lifted it onto a bakkie, driven by a third person. According to Ms Henn, the bike is worth R10 000.
According to Mr Ishak, he phoned Bishop Lavis police station shortly afterwards to report the theft, but when no one came out, he went to the station to open a case but was told to go home and wait for an SMS with a case number. But he is still waiting for that SMS.
Ms Henn said they knew one of the thieves as he lived in Bonteheuwel.
“We are traumatised and shocked that they were watching our house, drove back around, broke the lock and broke in and stole the bike,” she said.
Bishop Lavis police did not respond to questions from the Athlone News by time of publication.
