Nine schools and four senior clubs have received first-aid kits from Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus McKenzie.
The first aid kits were distributed to the recipients on Friday April 21 at the Bonteheuwel sub-council office.
“Our first response to any emergency is to pick up the phone and try to phone an ambulance or the councillor but in actual fact we have trained first aid operators in our clubs and schools who are able to assess the situation, and sometimes these first aid kits become so critical for that first aid responder and for the health and wellbeing of the person that is injured,” Mr McKenzie said.
Soraya Salie, the chairwoman of Bonteheuwel Walking Ladies, which received one of the kids, said: “This is a much needed resource in our communities. We deal with many seniors in the community, and now we are equipped to deal with them should there be any injuries to attend to.”
Jennifer Grey, a member of the Bluegum Fitness Ladies Club, said: “We do a lot of jumping, dancing, and floor exercises so if somebody got hurt then the first aid kit can help before the person goes to hospital.”
