Breakdancers from across the city, country and the globe, battled to be crowned undisputed champion at Fujifilm Instax Undisputed, at the V&A Waterfront, on Saturday January 18.
Legendary turntablist Grandmaster Ready D kept the beats banging with a panel of seasoned international judges keeping a close eye on the contestants from 14 different countries, including seven from the continent.
The participants competed across three categories: solo men, solo women, and crew battle.
Durban’s Courtnaé Paul flew the flag for South Africa in the solo women’s battle, beating B-Girl Karla from Reunion Island 2-0 in their three-round battle to secure her spot in the final, against eventual winner, Alessandra Chillemi aka B-Girl Alessandrina, from Italy.
Cape Town’s Toufeeq Baatjies aka B-Boy Toufeeq, from Mitchell’s Plain, also impressed, going down to Belgian B-Boy Cis in the solo men’s semi-finals.
In an all-Belgium final, B-Boy Djibril ultimately walked away with all the glory. Saturday’s winners will now compete at the world final, in Tokyo, Japan, in March.
