Two top academic achievers from Manenberg and Lansdowne have been awarded scholarships to attend an international summer school in Germany.
Achmat Isaacs and Saabirah Daya are both third-year Bachelor of Business Administration students at Tsiba Business School in Pinelands.
Their hard work got the attention of international academics and the two were awarded scholarships to attend a prestigious International Summer School on Global Business Development at Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences, in Bavaria, Germany, from Monday June 4 until Friday June 15.
Both are also dedicated, top academic performers in their third year of the Bachelor of Business Administration at Tsiba Business School in Pinelands.
Achmat is from Manenberg and matriculated from The Leadership Academy (TLC).
“With Manenberg’s reputation of being a township infested with gangsters and crime, I have challenged the status quo and instead of accepting what was happening around me, I promised myself to lead a better life and add positive value to my community. I aspire to be a visionary and an ambassador for my community that serves as a motivation for the people in my neighbourhood.
“Anything is possible if you set your mind to it and focus your energy on achieving your goals,” he said.
This intensive summer school is a two-week programme intended for international business and industrial engineering students, designed for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students and aims at offering a first-hand insight into global business development.
Saabirah is from Lansdowne and attended Windsor High School. She is a top performer and first on the Dean’s merit list.
“As much as I yearned to travel and experience the culture and life of being in another country, it remained a far-fetched dream – one I kept at the back of my mind until I was blessed with this magnificent opportunity. I am extremely excited to travel overseas for the first time and will always be eternally grateful to Tsiba for putting this experience in my path,” she said.
To assist them with some remaining funds needed, Tsiba set up a BackaBuddy fundraising campaign. They are hoping to raise a total of R12 000 for them.
