The City is asking the public to work with it to turn illegal dumping hot spots into places of beauty that can be enjoyed by all.
Despite the City spending millions of rand each year to clean up illegal dumps, people continue to discard their waste at almost 3000 hot spots across the metro, the City said in a statement.
Urban waste management mayoral committee member Grant Twigg believes more community involvement can help to turn the tide against the scourge.
“When residents are involved in these efforts, it normally gets better, as residents have put their own blood, sweat and tears into cleaning up the area, and they do not want to see others ruin their hard work,” he said.
Those interested in working on beautification projects are urged to register with the City so that they can be notified when opportunities for such initiatives arise.
