Manenberg police arrested eight people on Sunday November 12 on charges of hijacking.
Police specialised response teams were patrolling in Claremont when they followed up information about a vehicle which had been hijacked in Kuils River.
Police observed that a second vehicle was also operating with the hijacked vehicle and as the vehicles split and drove in separate directions, police waited for the car to drive into a safe area before pulling it over and arresting four men, aged 24 to 26.
The second vehicle drove in the direction of Manenberg and was pulled off in Duinefontein Road after police called for back-up.
As the vehicle was pulled over, two men jumped out and ran towards the railway tracks. One man turned and pointed a firearm at the police who then shot at him, hitting him in the leg.
An unlicensed 9mm pistol and R15 000 cash were recovered at the scene and three other men and a woman in the vehicle, were arrested.
The eight suspects appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday November 15.
On the same day, the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement officers responded to an alarm signal at Manenberg clinic and found a group of youngsters on the grounds.
The group fled but a 15-year-old was caught and he was found in possession of 11 rolled dagga cigarettes and a small amount of loose dagga.
The suspect was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday November 13.
