Colonel Hendri Hugo, the station commander at Manenberg police station, and Colonel Sanele Sama, led a team of crime prevention officers through Manenberg and spoke to the community about gang violence. They also listened to people’s concerns about the tense situation in the area.
Colonel Hugo also spoke to gangsters to find out how they see the situation being resolved.
He said many lives were put at risk because gangs could not find common ground to address their disputes.
“The community wants these gangs to make peace so that their lives can normalise. Sporadic shooting has put innocent lives directly in the line of fire.
“Community members need to play a more active role in reporting crime and criminal activities so that we can investigate and eradicate gang activity that puts innocent lives at risk,” said Colonel Hugo.
