The Autism Care Foundation will hold a series of literacy classes in Athlone for children with special needs.
The classes will help children with special needs from Athlone aged 7 to 14, according to the non-profit organisation’s director, Lindsay Boyd.
The aim is to help parents of children with special needs who struggle to give them the necessary educational support.
“Things are not so easy for special needs children especially to identify letters and words, as it is for a mainstream child. Children learn through pictures accompanied with words first,” said Ms Boyd.
The classes will be held at Athlone library on Fridays from 1pm to 4pm. The date has still to be confirmed, but parents will need to register their children for the classes, which will include storytelling, writing, and reading.
“We want to inspire young people to come. This is a constructive way for them to learn and have fun. We are hoping to have at least 16 children,” said Ms Boyd.
