In just four days, the Mustadafin Foundation warmed the hearts of thousands of Capetonians by hosting two mass iftaars, buying Eid clothes for 1 000 children and providing 300 families with Ramadaan food parcels.
With the help of sponsors and volunteers, the organisation was able to do all this from Wednesday May 30 to Saturday June 2.
Mustadafin has been serving the needs of orphans, the poor and destitute, as well as the broader community for over 32 years.
The Eid clothing shopping took place over three days, where the children were accompanied by volunteers, and each child shopped for their own outfits.
The mass iftaars were hosted at the Jabulani Centre in Parkwood and at the Mustadafin Centre in Sherwood Park, catering to more than 600 people.
“We invited all people – Muslims and Christians – to break their fast together, showing the beauty of Islam and sharing the blessings of this month,” said Mustadafin director, Ghairunisa Johnstone-Cassiem.
Three hundred Ramadaan food parcels were distributed to beneficiaries from its head office in Turfhall Road, Lansdowne, to those less fortunate families.
Ms Johnstone-Cassiem appealed to the community for their support. “With all the activities that took place over the weekend, the foundation humbly appeals for assistance to support its programmes. With your donations it can reach more hearts. Pay your Fitra, fidiyah, Zakaah and Sadaqah through Mustadafin.
“A heartfelt thanks to all sponsors and volunteers who always selflessly help and donate.
“At this time we look at disadvantaged people and the plight they’re going through, and it’s nice to see them smile and benefit from something they don’t get a lot of throughout the year.”

The centre is open seven days a week for the month of Ramadaan, at 30 Turfhall Road, Lansdowne, from 8.30am to 7pm.
