South Africans Against Drunk Driving (SADD) is working with the Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS) to encourage members of the public to donate blood ahead of the festive season road carnage.
Many road crash victims die due to lack of blood or proper medical services.
The campaign will also offer support to those victims left behind after their loved ones are killed or injured in a crash.
Sunday November 18 is the World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims, and SADD’s director, Caro Smit, will be at the blood bank’s donation clinics on Friday November 16 to meet and greet victims and tell them about the remembrance day.Â
Ms Smit will be at the blood bank at N1 City Mall clinic, from 10am to noon, and the Blue Route Mall from 1pm to 3pm.Â
She started SADD after her son, Chas Smit, lead guitarist of the band, Plush, was killed in a drinking-and-driving incident in 2005.Â
This Wednesday November 14, SADD member Brenda Nyman, who lost her 12-year-old son in 2002, will be at the Blood Bus, a mobile donation clinic, outside Fairbridge Mall, Brackenfell, from 10am to 2.45pm.
