On Saturday June 17, Athlone police arrested a 39-year-old man in 8th Avenue, Bokmakierie, for the possession of a .38 Special revolver, as well as ammunition and dagga. He was due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday June 19.
On Sunday June 18, a 21-year-old man was robbed in 8th Avenue, in Belgravia, when seven men standing on the corner blocked his car and threatened him with a gun.
The victim managed to turn into the yard of a house in 8th Avenue, but the men followed him and then robbed him of his Dell laptop, valued at R3 500, and ran away. Sergeant Zita Norman, Athlone police station spokeswoman, said that no shots were fired and no injuries sustained. No suspects were arrested.
