Manenberg police are looking for the eight men who robbed the Caltex garage in Duinefontein Road in Manenberg on Monday.
On Monday May 14, at 2.15am, eight armed men held the staff of the Caltex garage at gun-point. The men ripped out the drop safe containing an undisclosed amount of money and carried it to a waiting vehicle. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
According to Manenberg police station’s spokesman, Captain Ian Bennett, several Manenberg residents then stormed the Caltex self-serving cafe and looted the premises of all the stock items displayed for sale. He said video footage would be reviewed.
A 36-year-old woman was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Thursday May 10. Police officers of the Nyanga cluster task team were busy with high density patrols when they saw a suspicious looking woman in Leftie Road, Manenberg. Police searched her and found a pistol with nine rounds of ammunition, attached to her leg. The woman was arrested and appeared in Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday May 14.
Lansdowne police arrested five men for breaking into a house in Crawford on Wednesday May 9. The suspects were spotted by Shaza Security breaking into a house at Haywood Road in Crawford.
They fled in a white Toyota Avanza in the direction of Athlone.
Police gave chase after receiving the information and found the Avanza, and searched them.
They found a crowbar in the vehicle, a blue surgical hand glove, and a broken bronze padlock.
The five men, aged between 21 and 26, were arrested and appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday May 11.
Manenberg police arrested a 19-year-old in Thames Walk on Tuesday May 8 at for the possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The teen was arrested and appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Thursday May 10.
