Police are hunting for seven men, who face armed-robbery and attempted-murder charges, after two Rylands Estate residents were shot in a robbery.
The robbers – two of them carrying guns – broke into a Doring Road home at 3.10am last Thursday, police say.
Masked men woke the homeowner and ordered him to face the wall.
The intruders took three cellphones, all worth R5000, according to Athlone police spokeswoman Sergeant Zita Norman.
Another resident confronted the robbers as they were leaving and shots were fired. Two residents in their 20s were wounded, one in his chest, the other in a side rib.
They were taken to Gatesville Melomed Hospital and are in a stable condition.
